WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro boys and girls swimming teams defeated Susquehanna Township on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at the Waynesboro Area YMCA.
“Both of our teams had strong showings,” said Waynesboro coach Sharon McIlquham.
The Indians and Maidens each improved to 2-0 in the young season.
Waynesboro hopes to make another splash when they compete against Boiling Springs on Thursday in Boiling Springs. It’ll be the final competition for the teams until Jan. 6.
In the girls’ competition, Waynesboro won all 11 events. Ruth Phillips was part of four of them. She took the top spot in the 50 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. She also swam on the winning 200-meter relay team (with Vanna Keyser, Mady Barker, and Rylee Tritle) and the 200 freestyle relay (with Barker, Tritle, and Lili Moreno).
Barker nabbed individual wins in the 200 freestyle event and the 400 freestyle. Teammate Vanna Keyser finished first in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, while Tritle captured first place in the 200 individual medley. Lili Moreno was first in the 100 breaststroke.
“Other strong performances for the girls’ team were Leah Yost, Grace Wolfinger, Avery Hess, and Bella Moreno,” said McIlquham.
The Indians won seven of 11 events, led by Will Yost. Yost won the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke. He also swam a leg in the winning 200 freestyle relay.
Andrew Bryan won the 100 freestyle. Luke Halstead was victorious in the 400 freestyle, while Jasper Estes won the 100 backstroke.
“Other strong performances were turned in by Kieffer Hess, Levi Horst, and Cello Domino,” McIlquham said.
