WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School varsity wrestling team continues to experience growing pains.
Waynesboro hosted South Western on Tuesday, Dec. 16, for its annual Pink Out match. The Mustangs won the first five bouts – all by pin – and that provided most of the scoring needed to turn away the Tribe 46-27.
The contest started at the beginning, with the 107-pound bout. The next four matches mirrored the opener, with the only fall lasting beyond the first period was the 133-pound match. Cooper Myers pinned Sam Young in 2:28 as South Western took a 30-0 lead going into 139 pounds.
Waynesboro’s fortunes took a turn for the better when Steven Howard won by major decision, 11-3.
Teammate Levi Barr worked for a fall in 1:36, but the Mustangs won the next two contests, the first by pin (152 pounds) and the other by major decision (160) to take a commanding 40-10 lead.
At 172 pounds, Waynesboro’s Brady Myers recorded a technical fall, beating Carter Gordon 18-3 in 5:45. Tyler Rooney pinned Dylan Shower with one second left in the first period, and Anthony Ausherman pinned Silas Wachter in 5:37.
Waynesboro doesn’t have much time to get back to the wrestling room, as the Indians travel to Newville on Thursday to face Big Spring in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division meet.
