WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro Maidens varsity basketball team got off to a promising start, but the Northern Polar Bears dominated the middle two quarters on their way to a 50-36 victory on Wednesday, December 10 in a Mid-Penn Colonial Division game.
Waynesboro led 11-7 after the first quarter. Northern outscored the Maidens 14-3 in the second quarter and 17-5 in the third period to take a commanding 38-19 lead entering the final stanza.
The loss was Waynesboro’s third against one win. The Maidens lost to New Oxford in the season opener, 64-40, and fell 60-27 to Penn Manor before losing to Northern.
The Maidens rebounded against West Perry on Friday, December 12, 54-28 in Elliottsburg in a divisional game.
Waynesboro returns to the hardwood on Monday at home against Greenastle-Antrim in a league contest. Tip-off is around 6 p.m. for the game, which is part of a four-game lineup (girls’ and boys’ junior varsity and girls’ and boys’ varsity).
