It’s been a whirlwind start for the Waynesboro Area Senior High School varsity wrestling team.
The Indians began the 2025-26 season with a dual meet against area powerhouse Chambersburg. Two days later, the Indians competed in the Rocket Duals hosted by Spring Grove High School, where Waynesboro wrestled five meets.
This weekend, the Tribe is back on the mats for the annual Carlisle Individual Invitational.
The Trojans won the first five bouts to take a 30-0 lead before Waynesboro’s Steven Howard won by technical fall, 19-4, in the 139-pound contest.
The Indians won four of the final five matches, beginning with Colton Biser’s technical fall at 152 pounds. Biser led 18-2 to secure the tech fall.
Wyatt Lowans followed with a pin in 5:08 at 160 pounds. Brady Myers notched the Tribe’s third technical fall, 16-1, in the 172-pound bout.
Anthony Ausherman dominated his 215-pound opponent before recording the fall in 5:51.
Waynesboro went 1-4 in the Rocket Duals, with the win coming against Kutztown, 54-22.
The Indians lost to West Scranton (34-32), Spring Grove (56-17), Mid-Penn Colonial Division opponent Boiling Springs (39-26), and Hempfield (41-29).
Ausherman won all five of his matches, including three by fall. He is 6-0 heading into the Carlisle Invitational. Ausherman is seeded sixth at 215 after placing fourth here last year. He is currently ranked 10th in the state.
Wyatt Lowans, Steven Howard, and Tyler Rooney went 4-1, while Brady Myers won three of five bouts. Howard drew the eighth seed after winning at Carlisle last year.
