The Waynesboro Indians varsity basketball team tipped off the 2025-26 season with a pair of non-conference games.
On Wednesday, Dec. 3, Waynesboro traveled to Adams County to play New Oxford. The Tribe took a 15-6 lead after the first quarter and took a 34-32 lead into the fourth period. But the Colonials outscored Waynesboro 20-11 in the final stanza to notch a 52-45 victory.
On Friday, Dec. 5, Penn Manor used a strong first half to build a 25-15 lead, and both teams played even the rest of the game during a 56-45 Penn Manor win.
Carter Hough led the Indians in the scoring column with 14 points. Hough was 7 of 10 from the free-throw line. Rayshawn Frazer-Hewitt was next in double digits with 11 points, including a three-point field goal.
Danny Martin and Jayden Tyler each tallied six points, while Nate Nystrom added five points.
Nystrom pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds, with eight coming on the defensive end. Hough contributed five defensive boards and led the Tribe with five assists.
Frazer-Hewitt scored 10 points in the first quarter against New Oxford and finished with a team-best 16 points. Seven of his points came from the foul line, and he made two three-pointers.
Nystrom and Hough each scored nine points. Nystrom and Ryan Jenkins both grabbed six rebounds.
Next up for Waynesboro (0-2) is a road trip to Dillsburg to face Northern York in the Mid-Penn Colonial Division season opener. Tip-off is around 7 p.m. The Indians then host West Perry on Friday, Dec. 10.
