Used book sale nets $34K boost for Habitat homes

CHAMBERSBURG – Thanks to the incredible generosity of local residents, this year’s Habitat for Humanity Used Book Sale brought in an impressive $34,000, a significant boost for Habitat’s ongoing homebuilding efforts. The community truly showed up with more than 60,000 donated items, including books, puzzles, games and movies, which filled the sale tables.

Proceeds from these donations will help purchase essential building materials for Habitat homes currently under construction in Chambersburg and Greencastle. The event was made possible through strong local partnerships. St. John’s United Church of Christ hosted the sale, providing both space and dedicated volunteers. BCM Payroll Services sponsored the event, while Patriot Federal Credit Union opened its branch locations for donation drop-offs.

Additional support came from Friends of Legal Services, who contributed supplies, sorting space and volunteers to keep the sale running smoothly.

“This is what the power of our community working together looks like,” said Mark Story, director of advancement for Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County. “We’re especially grateful to the volunteers at St. John’s Church and to the ambassadors from the Cumberland Valley Business Alliance for their hands-on help and enthusiasm.”

Leftover items from the sale were donated to other area nonprofits, with the remainder sold in bulk, ensuring that nothing went to waste. Mark your calendars: the next Used Book Sale is scheduled for Oct. 23–25, 2026.
