Public can help with Fall Cigarette Butt Clean-Up, ‘only leaves belong on ground’

HAGERSTOWN – The Washington County Health Department’s Behavioral Health Services is inviting community members to take part in its Fall Cigarette Butt Clean-Up on Saturday, November 15th, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Downtown Hagerstown.

With the slogan “Only leaves should be on the ground,” the event aims to raise awareness about litter prevention and promote a cleaner, healthier environment for residents. Volunteers will come together to remove discarded cigarette butts from local streets, helping to reduce pollution and beautify the community.

Participants can easily sign up by scanning the QR code featured on the event flyer or by visiting washcohealth.org. Those with questions can contact the Health Department at 240-313-3310 or via Maryland Relay at 711.

The event is located at 925 N. Burhans Blvd., Hagerstown, and, while not a Washington County Public Schools–sponsored event, it’s being shared as a community effort open to everyone who wants to make a difference.

By volunteering just a couple of hours, residents can help keep Hagerstown’s streets clean, ensuring that this fall, leaves are in fact, the only thing on the ground.
