With Halloween and Thanksgiving just around the corner as the year surges toward Christmas, it is a time to count blessings and think about others. In the spirit of sharing and celebrating the bounty of the season, Homeless Matters of Franklin County is collecting personal and personal care items for the Children’s Aid Society.
The Children’s Aid Society formed in 1884 to help homeless children and children that did not have their basic needs met. It served Franklin County and today reaches out to south central Pennsylvania. Overall, the Children’s Aid Society works to help young people from 10 to 18 to be safe, secure and stable through a number of programs, including adoption, foster care, residential services and diagnostic support.
Homeless Matters is collecting personal care items—such things as Chapstick, lotion, deodorant, brushes and combs. Other items include pens, pencils, journals, art supplies, teen socks, hats, gloves, lip gloss, body sprays and hygiene items. Readers are being asked to consider sharing with community youth and donating a care item. Something small will make a special moment for the youth of the Children’s Aid Society.
Homeless Matters will be collecting items for the Children’s Aid Society through Nov. 17. Donations can be made at the Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center, 15 S. Main St. in Chambersburg, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. For questions or to arrange another time to donate, readers may contact 717-552-2977.
Homeless Matters of Franklin County is a committee of concerned citizens working to address the most urgent and critical needs of homeless families as they strive to ease burdens and assist in giving the opportunity for success in the face of personal hardship.
