FAYETTEVILLE – Totem Pole Playhouse launches its summer season with “9 to 5: The Musical,” featuring music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick. The show runs June 20 through July 6, offering 20 performances filled with laughter, music and a message of empowerment.
Based on the 1980 film, the musical follows three women who unite to challenge their sexist boss and transform their workplace. The production blends outrageous antics, clever schemes and the iconic title song, creating a feel-good experience that celebrates friendship and fairness.
The cast is led by Amy Decker as Violet, Allie Seibold as Doralee and Hannah Taylor as Judy. Taylor Whidden plays Roz, and Billy Clark Taylor stars as Mr. Hart. The ensemble includes local and regional performers such as Michael Santora, Dennis Setteducati and Taylor Kellas Warren.
Ryan B. Gibbs, producing artistic director, directs the show, with Darren Server as music director, Cody Smith as choreographer, Elizabeth Angelozzi as costume designer and Tom Ryan as scenic designer.
“This show is fun, fierce and filled with heart—just like Dolly herself,” said Gibbs. “It’s about finding your voice, standing up for what’s right and dancing a little while you do it.”
The musical premiered in Los Angeles in 2008 and moved to Broadway in 2009, earning multiple Drama Desk and Tony nominations. The Totem Pole production spotlights more than 25 local performers and crew, continuing the theater’s tradition of supporting homegrown talent.
“9 to 5: The Musical” is rated PG-13 for mature humor and workplace hijinks. The show is sponsored by The Drager Family.
