WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro Area Senior High School Class of 2025 celebrated its graduation on May 30, marking the 143rd annual commencement of the Waynesboro Area School District. The ceremony, held at the high school located at 550 E. Second St., honored the graduating class under the district’s guiding principle of “Excellence in Education.”
The commencement program started with a prelude featuring the wind ensemble performing “Emblems of America,” followed by the traditional processional to Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance,” also performed by the wind ensemble.
Seth Cole, the class of 2025 treasurer, delivered the welcoming greeting. Riley Morgan, class historian, led the Pledge of Allegiance, and the wind ensemble performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” by John Stafford Smith and the “WASHS Alma Mater” by Beverly Cloud.
Aiden Hess delivered the summa cum laude speech, a highlight of the ceremony. Colby Smith, the class of 2025 vice president, introduced Dr. Rita Sterner-Hine, superintendent, who then offered remarks and introduced guests. Dr. Diane McCallum, principal of Waynesboro Area Senior High School, addressed the graduating class.
Dr. Allison Kopco, assistant principal, introduced Allison Kuhar, the class of 2025 president, who delivered the address to her fellow graduates. McCallum then presented the class for graduation, with Dr. Todd Dishong, assistant superintendent, accepting the class on behalf of the district.
The class of 2025 officers were formally presented, followed by the presentation of diplomas and the calling of the class roll by the officers. Kyle Swanson, class of 2025 secretary, accepted the diplomas. The ceremony concluded with a recessional featuring the wind ensemble performing “Valdres March” by Johannes Hanssen.
