5 things to do this weekend: May 6-8

Be abstract. The Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro will host an opening reception for “From Realism to Abstraction” on Friday, May 6, from 5:30 to 8 pm. at Gallery 50, 50 W. Main St., Waynesboro. The exhibit showcases the work of 17 artists and will include refreshments and live music from the Prophets of the Abstract Truth, who will be playing in the adjacent Music Makers’ space. The featured artists include Ed Becker, Donna Bingaman, Colleen Clapp, Sandra Desrosiers, Lina Ferrara, Dee Henry, Melissa Hook, Roberta Iula, Carl Lewis, Donna Mason, Leslie McEntire, Karen Peacock, Ed Ramsburg, Marie Riccio, Julie Riker, Anita Williams and Marti Yeager. Admission is free.

Go Dutch. Shalom Christian Academy will host Dutchfest 2022 May 6 and 7. The event kicks off today with food concessions featuring pork barbecue sandwiches and homestyle foods, plus craft show and used book area. A live sports auction will be offered Friday evening. Saturday’s event includes the SCA 5K, Children’s Fun Walk and Chicken BBQ. Hours are Friday, May 6, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shalom Christian Academy, 126 Social Island Road, Chambersburg. Admission and parking are free.

Find a deal. Emmanuel Full Gospel Church will host an annual plant/yard/bake sale Friday, May 6, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, 11354 Anthony Hwy., Waynesboro. Items will include books, clothes, household items, plants, vegetables and fresh baked goods.

Eat more chicken. The Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department will host a chicken barbecue Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. until sold out at 10 Virginia Ave., Waynesboro. Meal is $12 each.

Celebrate spring. Spring Fest will be held Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street. The event will include more than 300 vendors, food trucks, and kids’ activities.
