Art will come alive on the streets of downtown Chambersburg during the fourth annual Plein Air event Saturday, Sept. 5, when more than 50 regional artists will race to create original works during a Quick Draw Competition from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The public is invited to watch the artists at work before judging begins from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Chambers Fort Park, followed by an awards ceremony, reception, exhibit and art sale from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the park. The event offers visitors a chance to support regional artists, purchase freshly made artwork and take home a memento of an art-filled day; the Foundry Art Market also will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
Food, music and small-town fun will fill Shafer Park when the sixth annual Boonsboro Food Truck Festival returns from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at 37 Park Drive in Boonsboro, Maryland. Presented by the Boonsboro Town Alliance, the free, family-friendly event will feature regional food trucks including Cousins Maine Lobster, Jimmy’s Seafood, Fireside Pizza and Cheddar Mac; desserts and non-alcoholic drinks; artisan vendors; and a beverage garden serving local beer, wine and spirits. Live entertainment at the bandstand will include Tony M from noon to 1:30 p.m., Mack Berry from 2 to 4 p.m. and Park Avenue Band from 4 to 6 p.m. The festival invites visitors to gather with family and friends, support local vendors and enjoy an afternoon of food and music in the park.
Savor classic flavors and small-town tradition as the Quincy Community Ox Roast Association hosts the 91st annual Quincy Ox-Roast Weekend from Sept. 4 through 7 along Route 997 North, just north of Waynesboro. The four-day community celebration features nightly live entertainment, 25-cent bingo, antique tractor displays, car shows, children’s activities, a community yard sale and various food options, culminating in its famous buffet ox-roast dinner on Labor Day. Admission and parking are free for the event, which raises funds to benefit local Quincy street lights and community activities.
From ancient hunting tools to hands-on target practice, the Conococheague Institute will invite visitors of all ages to explore Indigenous arrowheads and the history of bow technology during a family-friendly archery program Saturday at Rock Hill Farm, 12995 Bain Road, Mercersburg. The regional learning center’s exhibit will examine how Indigenous hunters in the region used bows and arrows, while live archery sessions at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. will give toddlers through adults a chance to try appropriately sized bows, learn about the technology’s historical use and take part in supervised shooting beginning at the Welsh Barrens Visitor Center. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5.
Music, art and community spirit will take center stage when the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro’s Destination ARTS! presents JAMMIN’ in the Park 2026 from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at Main Street Park in downtown Waynesboro. The annual music and arts festival will feature seven area acts on two stages — BBD Trio, Ethan Larsh, Cameron Molloy & the Drivin’ Wheel, Tresa Day & Joel Newman, FATSO, Brad Munn and Kin Selection — along with live and silent auctions, 50/50 drawings, a community painting project, food trucks and craft beer for those 21 and older from Rough Edges Brewing. Sponsored by Waynesboro Construction and F&M Trust, the event raises funds for the nonprofit Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro/Destination ARTS; advance tickets are $15 online at artsalliancegw.org and $20 cash at the gate. Admission is free for children 12 and younger.
