5 things to do this weekend

Shoppers eager to celebrate spring with local flair will find plenty to love at the Fort Ritchie Community Center’s Spring Craft Bazaar, where more than 60 vendors will showcase handmade, homegrown and one-of-a-kind creations. From Easter baskets and seasonal décor to jewelry, woodwork, candles and baked goods, the event offers unique gifts and treats for every taste. The bazaar will be held Saturday, March 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 14421 Lake Royer Drive, giving visitors a chance to support local artisans and get a jump on Easter and Mother’s Day shopping.

Book lovers can step back in time this weekend at the Blue Ridge Summit Free Library, where more than 200 vintage books — some dating as far back as 1840 — will go on sale at prices below comparable online editions. The sale, held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28, in the library’s Community Room at 13676 Monterey Lane, Blue Ridge Summit, invites collectors and casual readers alike to browse rare and classic titles spanning over a century of publishing history.

Spring traditions come hopping to life at the Jonathan Hager House Museum during its German Easter Tours in Hagerstown. Visitors can uncover the origins of familiar customs — including why the Easter bunny, originally a “she,” is said to lay eggs — and explore the folklore connecting Eastertide to German heritage. The guided tours, offered at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, March 27 and 28 and April 3 and 4, cost $5 per person, with free admission for children 12 and under. The museum, located at 110 Key St., accepts only debit or credit card payments.

A taste of the Mediterranean and a flair for fashion will come together at the Franklin County Visitors Bureau as PEO Chapter BX hosts its annual Mediterranean Luncheon & Fashion Show to raise funds for women’s education scholarships. The event will be held Saturday, March 28, at 15 S. Main St., Chambersburg, with doors opening at 10:30 a.m. and the show beginning at 11:30 a.m. Attendees can enjoy lunch, see fashions by Here’s Looking at You, and take part in raffles for prizes. Tickets cost $25 and can be reserved by calling Penny at 717-263-8529.

Hollywood glamour is coming to Hagerstown as the Maryland International Film Festival returns March 26–29, showcasing more than 100 films from around the world at six venues throughout downtown. Opening at the historic Maryland Theatre, the four-day celebration of cinema invites film fans, directors and producers to connect in the heart of the city’s Arts and Entertainment District. Named one of Movie Magazine’s “Top 50 film festivals worth the entry fee,” the event offers screenings, after-parties and networking opportunities for emerging talent and industry professionals alike. Tickets are $20, and more details are available at marylandiff.org.
