5 things to do this weekend

Sweet stacks and warm hearts will come together in Greencastle this weekend as Macedonia United Brethren Church hosts a benefit pancake breakfast and bake sale to support the family of Lauren Browning. The community fundraiser will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, from 7 to 10 a.m. at the church, 11887 Worleytown Road, with proceeds helping cover medical bills and expenses related to Browning’s illness. Guests can enjoy a hearty breakfast featuring pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, puddin’, sausage gravy and biscuits, along with coffee and juice, with all donations accepted at the door.

Rock royalty and pop perfection will share the spotlight when “Candlelight: Queen vs. ABBA” transforms Cortland Mansion into a glowing symphony of sound and light. The live, multi-sensory concert will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at 19411 Cortland Drive in Hagerstown, featuring classical renditions of hits from two of music’s most iconic groups. Presented by Candlelight Concerts, the event offers an intimate atmosphere bathed in candlelight, with tickets starting at $42 available at eventvesta.com.

Chick-fil-A Chambersburg is throwing a party you won’t want to miss — and your ticket in is a festive hat. To celebrate 10 years of serving the community, the restaurant at 970 Norland Ave. is offering a free entrée or Kid’s Meal to guests who show up wearing their most creative party hat on Saturday, Jan. 24. The celebration runs all day for dine-in, carry-out, and drive-thru orders, with the Chick-fil-A Cow making appearances from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to pose for photos.

Outlaws, mountain men and African adventures take over the big screen this weekend at Waynesboro Theatre. The historic theater will showcase three Robert Redford classics — “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” on Friday, “Jeremiah Johnson” on Saturday and “Out of Africa” on Sunday — as part of its winter film series celebrating Hollywood legends. Screenings begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at the downtown Waynesboro venue. Tickets are $7 for adults and $6 for children.

Teams of puzzle enthusiasts can put their problem-solving skills to the test at the Maryland Puzzle Derby, a fast-paced jigsaw showdown benefiting Landon’s Puzzle Pieces. Groups of four will race to complete a 500-piece puzzle at The Maryland Theatre’s Manger Ballroom, 21 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown, with the clock starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25. Participants won’t know what image they’re assembling until the timer begins, and rankings will be determined by the fewest pieces left after the three-hour limit. Registration costs $136 per team through Ticketmaster.
