Jazz will have Waynesboro swinging like a pendulum on Sunday, Aug. 24, when the Mike Stern Quintet headlines the 34th annual Jazz Festival at Buttonwood Nature Center’s Wharf in Waynesboro. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the free event, hosted by The Institute, showcases the six-time Grammy-nominated guitarist Mike Stern, whose electrifying style blends bebop finesse with rock intensity, honed through collaborations with legends like Miles Davis and the Brecker Brothers. Attendees can expect a soulful performance from Stern, alongside Leni Stern on guitar, Bob Franceschini on saxophone, Edmond Gilmore on bass and Juan Chiavassa on drums. The outdoor stage at 10141 Wharf Road welcomes picnics, lawn chairs and blankets, with free water provided and parking available on-site.

Talk about a tater-tastic time! The Washington County Agricultural Education Center in Boonsboro, Maryland, will host the Spud Fest Living History Event on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with festivities continuing Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This family-friendly festival celebrates the county’s storied potato-growing heritage with activities like children’s potato picking, a tractor pedal pull, a Civil War-era petting zoo and potato chip-making demonstrations. Visitors can also enjoy field harvesting exhibits, a scavenger hunt, an antique tractor show and treats like potato candy and ice cream from food trucks, all designed to dig up the roots of local agricultural traditions.

Rock royalty reigns again as Gary Mullen & The Works bring their electrifying One Night of Queen to the Luhrs Performing Arts Center in Shippensburg on Saturday, Aug. 23, at 7:30 p.m. The performance celebrates the music and showmanship of Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame legends Queen, with Mullen’s spot-on embodiment of Freddie Mercury captivating sold-out crowds in over 2,500 shows across 20 countries. Known for headlining London’s Hyde Park at the BBC Proms and performing at iconic Queen venues, the band delivers a high-energy tribute to thrill fans and newcomers alike.

Retro treasures and crafty creations collide as the Vintage Revival Market transforms Gearhouse Brewing Co. into a nostalgic shopping haven on Saturday Aug. 23, at 253 Grant St., Chambersburg. From 10 a.m., over 30 small businesses will showcase curated vintage finds and handmade goods, inviting locals to sip a cold Gearhouse brew, savor lunch and shop unique wares. Organized by VRM, the event celebrates local artisans and the charm of yesteryear, promising a vibrant day of community and discovery.

Forget Netflix and chill – grab a blanket and thrill at the Green Hill Roots Fest. On Saturday, Aug. 23, 2 from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Green Hill Farm in Sharpsburg, Maryland, transforms into a vibrant celebration of Appalachian culture. The festival, hosted at 5329 Mondell Road, showcases newgrass, progressive folk and Americana music, blending old mountain traditions with fresh energy. Attendees can enjoy family-friendly activities, including a children’s area with cornhole and a straw bale tower, plus an artisan market featuring pottery, woodwork and herbal remedies. Admission is $20 online or $30 at the gate, with kids 12 and under free. Rain or shine, the event bans outside alcohol to keep the focus on the music and community spirit.
