WAYNESBORO – More than 115 classic vehicles and a bustling crowd filled Red Run Park on Sunday, June 1, as the 35th annual Appalachian Golden Classics Car & Truck Show rolled into town. Hosted by Buchanan Chevrolet GMC, the event drew enthusiasts from across the region, showcasing American-made cars and trucks through 2025.
Participants began arriving at 9 a.m., lining up for registration and eager to secure one of the coveted dash plaques awarded to the first 100 entries. By midday, the show grounds were packed with vintage vehicles, chrome gleaming under the early summer sun, and the sound of 1950s and 1960s music spun by a live DJ.
The Open Grille served up food throughout the day, while families enjoyed indoor restrooms, a playground and train rides. Spectators, who enjoyed free admission and parking, mingled with car owners and took part in a lively trivia contest.
Judging was conducted by participating drivers, with awards presented to the top 40 vehicles. Special honors included Best of Show and Oldest Entry. Door prizes were distributed throughout the day, and attendees eagerly awaited the results of the all-day 50/50 drawing, which added to the festive atmosphere.
The event maintained a family-friendly environment, with organizers enforcing a strict policy prohibiting alcohol, skateboards, and bicycles on the show grounds. All proceeds from the show were donated to local charities, continuing a tradition of community support that began when the event was established in 1989.
Awards were presented at 2 p.m., capping off a day that celebrated automotive history and community spirit. With over 115 entries and a record turnout, organizers and sponsors—including Antietam Eye Associates and Dave Shockey Auto Body—hailed the event as one of the busiest and most successful in its 35-year history.
