WALKERSVILLE, Md. – Skyla Mastronardi scored 21 points and Claire Bono added 20 as the Smithsburg girls basketball team started 2026 in the same fashion it left 2025 – with a victory.
The Leopards pressured Walkersville for 18 steals to run away with a 63-21 win over the Lions.
Mastronardi scored nine baskets, including three 3-pointers, and provided eight steals to lead the way for Smithsburg’s 10th straight win to start the season. Bono sank 10 baskets, including a pair of 3s, to go with her team-high five assists.
Jenna Todd was the third Leopard in double figures with 15 points, three assists, four steals and four blocked shots.
Smithsburg played without three players on the roster. Starters Jayda Tyler and Kara Hoover, along with Taylor Shusko, were inactive for the game.
Oakdale 62, South Hagerstown 23
IJAMSVILLE, Md. – Aniyah Freeman and Khloe Terralonge each scored double figures in the Rebels loss to the Bears.
Freeman led South (1-9) with 11 points with two blocks and two steal. Terralonge had 10 points and three steals.

Smithsburg 74, Walkersville 41
WALKERSVILLE, Md. – Jacob Tyler scored 19 points and dished off six assists to lead the Leopards to a victory over the Lions.
Masen Howe added 18 points for Smithsburg (5-4), while Marquis Weakfall added 15.
Jacob Tyler had 19 points and 6 assists.
Frederick 78, North Hagerstown 60
HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Hubs trailed by 33-24 at the half and couldn’t recover in a loss to Frederick, North Hagerstown’s first loss of the year.
Frederick led by as many as 22 points and steadily pulled away in the second quarter to post the victory. There were four ties and seven lead changes in the game.
Brayden Cespedes led the Hubs (6-1) with 19 points and three steals, while Joey Dorsey added 17 points. North managed just 20 rebounds in the game.
Jaron Nicholson had seven points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Tristan Redick added nine points.
Oakdale 70, South Hagerstown 40
IJAMSVILLE, Md. – Avery Cosley led the Rebels with 15 points in a loss to Oakdale.
Cosley added seven rebounds and four steals for South (3-5).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Shepherd’s Estridge named PSAC East Athlete of the Week
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Shepherd University sophomore forward Lamaria Estridge was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Athlete of the Week. Estridge earned PSAC weekly honors for the second time this season.
Estridge averaged 22.5 points and 6.0 rebounds for the Rams for the week. She scored 21 points against Clarion on Friday and added 24 against UPJ on Saturday. Estridge connected on 20-of-37 field goals (.540). She added three steals, two assists, and a pair of blocked shots.

Shepherd places eight on CSC Academic All-District Football Team
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Eight members of the Shepherd University football team were named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams.
The team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes on the field and in the classroom.
Redshirt senior offensive lineman Brandon Carr, redshirt junior Vince Flook, graduate student quarterback Michael Hardyway, junior tight end Brian Jester, graduate student offensive lineman Ty Lucas, senior fullback Mason Miller, junior wide receiver Carrington Nickens-Yzer and graduate student running back Grant Swinehart were honored.
Carr boasts a 3.54 grade point average as a recreation and sport studies major. He anchored an offensive line that paved the way for Jordan Barnett to rush for 1,209 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also helped Shepherd average 168.73 rushing yards and 30.5 points per game.
Flook boasts a 3.55 grade point average as a business administration major. He recorded nine tackles (six solos) with 1.5 tackles-for-loss (-13 yards) and a half sack for minus three yards. He added two blocked kicks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Hardyway boasts a 4.0 grade point average as an MBA major with a 3.62 undergraduate grade point average. He completed 195-of-308 passes for 2,308 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also rushed for a score.
Jester boasts a 3.75 grade point average as a sports marketing major. He had one reception for five yards.
Lucas boasts a 3.75 grade point average as an MBA major with a 3.71 undergraduate grade point average.
Miller boasts a 3.97 grade point average as a biology major. He had a pair of receptions for nine yards.
Nickens-Yzer boasts a 3.85 grade point average as a sports marketing major. He had seven receptions for 108 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown grab. He also had 25 kick returns for 570 yards for a 22.8 average.
Swinehart boasts a 4.0 grade point average as an MBA major with a 3.69 undergraduate grade point average. He had 134 carries for 588 yards and five touchdowns. He added 18 receptions for 119 yards.
