Winter Storm Watch Issued for Franklin County

STATE COLLEGE- The National Weather Service has announced a winter storm watch for the Tri-State area, effective from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday, signaling a significant weather event that could impact the region with increased snowfall and challenging conditions.

Southern Franklin County is now bracing for an uptick in snow accumulation, with forecasts predicting 4 to 6 inches of snow overnight into Saturday. The area is set to experience light flurries beginning in the early evening, with the bulk of the snowfall expected to commence around 11 p.m. to midnight Friday and taper off by sunrise. Although the storm is anticipated to move swiftly towards the coast and out to sea, there could be residual snow lingering into the morning hours.

Saturday’s temperatures in southern Franklin County are forecasted to hover between 36 and 38 degrees, which, coupled with clear skies, should aid in melting the snow in areas that have been plowed and shoveled. Meteorologists from the National Weather Service have indicated that the snow from this storm is expected to be of the fluffier variety, contrasting with the heavy, wet snow that the area experienced earlier in the week.

Residents and travelers in the Tri-State area are advised to stay informed on the latest weather updates and prepare for the incoming winter conditions. The National Weather Service’s winter storm watch serves as a reminder of the potential for significant and hazardous winter weather within the next 48 hours, emphasizing the importance of readiness and caution during this period.
