BIGLERVILLE, Pa. — Water Mission will hold its annual Walk for Water in Central Pennsylvania on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Oakside Park in Biglerville.
Activities begin at 9 a.m., and the walk is scheduled to start promptly at 10 a.m. The free community event is designed to raise awareness of the global water crisis and support Water Mission’s efforts to provide safe water solutions in communities worldwide.
Participants will simulate the distance that many women and children in other countries travel each day to collect water for their families. In many communities, those trips exceed 3 miles, and the water collected is often unsafe to drink, according to Water Mission.
More than 2.1 billion people worldwide do not have access to clean, safe water, the organization said.
Water Mission, a Christian engineering nonprofit, works to develop and provide accessible safe-water systems in communities affected by water scarcity, disasters and inadequate infrastructure. Organizers of the Central Pennsylvania event hope to raise enough money to help bring safe water and “God’s love” to 1,500 people in need.
Participants may register as individuals, join an existing team or create their own team. Registration is free, though a minimum $25 donation is required to receive an official Walk for Water T-shirt. Donations support Water Mission’s safe-water projects around the world.
The event will be held at Oakside Park, 2880 Table Rock Road, Biglerville.
