WAYNESBORO – The Washington Township Police Department has received the official Certification of Accreditation from the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. This achievement marks a pivotal moment in the department’s history, serving as a catalyst for bolstering community confidence, reinforcing departmental professionalism and ensuring the highest levels of training and service.
Accreditation is a multi-year process developed by professional law enforcement executives with the aim of enhancing law enforcement as a profession, township officials said. It provides a structured pathway for agencies to evaluate and improve their overall performance through adherence to established standards. These standards contain clear statements of professional objectives, ensuring departments consistently deliver high-quality service to their communities.
The Washington Township Police Department embarked on its accreditation journey beginning in 2019, under the leadership of Retired Chief Mike McGovern. McGovern’s vision and dedication laid a strong foundation for this endeavor, officials noted. The journey continued with Chief Jason Wolfgang, who, along with a collective effort from every member of the department, played a crucial role in achieving this recognition.
This accreditation is not just a testament to the department’s commitment to excellence but also a promise to the community that they will continue to be served with integrity, transparency and professionalism, township officials noted. The community can now have increased confidence in their police department, knowing that it operates under standards designed to ensure accountability and effectiveness.
The Washington Township Police Department’s achievement is a proud moment for the entire community, reflecting a shared commitment to safety, trust, and excellence in law enforcement.
