HAGERSTOWN – Washington County Supervisors will consider the $326.8 million budget proposed for next year at their meeting starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 25. Supervisors meet at 100 Washington St. , and public comments are included early in the agenda.
The ordinance controlling camping by the homeless in public spaces will be considered later. The measure is currently undergoing staff review, county officials noted.
According to materials submitted to supervisors, of the total, 50 percent of the budget comes from property taxes, while 41 percent comes from county income taxes. The budget totaled $300.6 million in 2024 and $281 million in 2023.
Major expenses include 36 percent of the total for public schools, 18 percent for police and 911, as well as 9 percent for the fire department and EMS.
The supervisors’ agenda also includes a private executive session with the supervisors’ attorney to discuss negotiations with the International Association of Firefighters.
