Washington County launches explorer’s challenge contest

HAGERSTOWN – Economic development in Washington County focuses on enhancing the business climate, fostering job retention and growth, expanding the tax base and improving the overall quality of life, according to the Washington County Department of Business and Economic Development.

And citizens play a crucial role in this process, economic development officials said, as their purchasing decisions directly contribute to these objectives by supporting local businesses and stimulating economic activity.

Starting next Monday, Oct. 21, the Washington County Department of Business and Economic Development invites all citizens to participate in an EXPLORER’S CHALLENGE CONTEST to promote Economic Development Week in the State of Maryland.  By participating in the contest, the agency is encouraging community members to engage, explore and discover the unique business and product offerings within Washington County.

To participate in the competition, contestants may submit any of the following fun photos for entries into the drawing to win one of several $50 Visa gift cards:

  • Take a selfie in a business location
  • Group shots inside or in front of the location
  • Outside shots (street view)
  • Merchandise offered
  • Showcase services provided
  • The business owner or manager (with permission)
  • Enjoying a food item or beverage from the business

Economic development officials encourage participants to visit the different municipalities. For each municipality visited, participants can submit a photo to receive one entry into the drawing for a gift card. Up to 10 entries will be accepted for each individual.

Photos are to be submitted to: [email protected] by noon on Friday, Oct. 25. Winners will be notified by email.

Contest administrators urge photographers to stay safe while taking photos and avoid any shot that puts you or others in danger. Always ask for permission before photographing anyone in the location.
