HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners will convene July 21 to consider a proposed warehouse development near the state line, historic preservation initiatives, economic development funding and a series of infrastructure and equipment purchases.
The most significant item on the agenda is a public hearing on a Water and Sewer Plan Amendment that would allow a 172-acre property at 17939 Mason Dixon Rd. to receive water and sewer service from Pennsylvania’s Antrim Township Municipal Authority. The amendment would support plans for two warehouse and distribution facilities totaling nearly 1.85 million square feet near Interstate 81 and Hagerstown Regional Airport.
Commissioners will also hold public hearings on two zoning map amendment requests presented by the Department of Planning and Zoning. Details of those requests are expected to be reviewed during the hearing process.
Historic preservation will be considered through a request to apply for and accept a Maryland Historical Trust non-capital grant. Commissioners will also take up memoranda of understanding with the towns of Funkstown and Smithsburg that would allow property owners in those municipalities to participate in the county’s historic property tax credit program.
Economic development officials will seek permission to apply for and accept funding through the MEDCO Business Ready Sites Program at Hagerstown Regional Airport. The program is designed to support development-ready properties and business attraction efforts.
The meeting also will focus on procurement and infrastructure matters such as purchases for highway maintenance equipment, including compact track loaders, rotary sweepers, boom mowers, paving attachments, dump trucks and a work truck for the Department of Water Quality.
Additional procurement items include an elevator replacement project at the County Office Building and Circuit Courthouse, electronics recycling services, stormwater management credits and revisions to several previously approved contracts and awards.
The board will also consider a grant-related item for the county detention center and hear a new “Faces of Farming” presentation, highlighting local agriculture.
Several appointments are scheduled, including positions on the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council, Historic District Commission and Local Management Board.
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ hearing room at the county administration building.
