GARDNERS, Pa. — The Gleaning Project is looking for volunteers to help pick sour cherries during a Thursday gleaning event at Peters Orchards in Adams County.
The glean is set for Thursday, June 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. Volunteers are asked to arrive 15 minutes early. The event will take place at Peters Orchards, 10540 Carlisle Pike, Gardners.
Those interested in helping are asked to RSVP by emailing [email protected] to reserve a spot.
The gleaning effort gives volunteers a chance to help recover fruit that might otherwise go unharvested. Organizers said volunteers are still needed. Last year, the project distributed 515,000 pounds of “gleaned” food that otherwise would have been wasted. All food is distributed without charge in Adams and Franklin counties.
