GREENCASTLE, Pa – Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity and Rep. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin) announced today that more than $16,000 in unclaimed property has been returned to Rescue Hose Company No. 1 of Greencastle, an emergency services provider serving Greencastle, Antrim Township and surrounding communities in Franklin County.
“Every unclaimed property return makes a difference, and I’m proud to return more than $16,000 to Rescue Hose Company to support the vital services they provide to protect the community,” said Garrity. “I encourage all Pennsylvanians to regularly search Treasury’s database for money that may belong to them, their families, friends or associated organizations.”
Rescue Hose Company delivers critical fire protection, rescue and emergency medical services to residents and visitors across the region. As a longstanding community organization, the company plays an essential role in public safety and emergency response.
“The Rescue Hose Company was unaware these funds were due to the company, and we are grateful that we were advised of such,” said William Hull, Rescue Hose Company President. “The returned funds will help us continue to serve and protect the residents of Greencastle and Antrim Township.”
The $16,559.17 returned to Rescue Hose Company includes three individual properties ranging in value from $100.00 to $16,359.71. The oldest property dates back to 2007, while the most recent is from 2021. Properties returned include funds from a credit balance and uncashed checks.
“Returning unclaimed funds to residents is always great and it is made all the more sweeter when a community organization like Rescue Hose Company is the recipient,” Reichard said. “This shows that countless Pennsylvanians have unclaimed property, usually money, they didn’t know about. I encourage everyone to check to see if they are one of them. Residents can reach out to my office for assistance.”
Since 2021, Treasurer Garrity has returned over $1 billion in unclaimed property and continues working to return more than $5 billion still waiting to be claimed.
Unclaimed property can be things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks or forgotten stocks, and it can also include tangible items such as collectible coins, jewelry and savings bonds that most often comes to Treasury as the contents of safe deposit boxes.
One in 10 Pennsylvanians is owed unclaimed property, with the average claim worth over $1,000. To search for unclaimed property, visit patreasury.gov/unclaimed-property.
