Thousands gather for Waynesboro’s 4th of July show

Thousands of residents and visitors filled the area surrounding Waynesboro Area Senior High School last night to witness the town’s annual 4th of July fireworks display, a highlight of the Summer Jubilee festivities. The event, which began at dark, drew crowds from across the region, with many families arriving early to secure the best vantage points.

One of the most popular gathering spots was Otterbein United Methodist Church’s Community Recreation Park on Welty Road. The church opened its grounds to the public, offering free hot dogs and drinks, and providing a welcoming space for neighbors to celebrate together. There was no admission charge, making the event accessible to all in the community.

As the sky darkened, anticipation built among the crowd. Children played in the grass while adults chatted and enjoyed refreshments. At 10:30 p.m., the first bursts of color lit up the night, drawing cheers and applause from the thousands in attendance. The fireworks show, part of the annual Summer Jubilee, featured a dazzling array of pyrotechnics that illuminated the sky above Waynesboro, capping off a day filled with patriotic festivities, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities.

For many, the event at Otterbein United Methodist Church provided more than just a view of the fireworks—it created a sense of community and celebration that embodied the spirit of Independence Day in Waynesboro.
