Taste of Tennessee Comes to Waynesboro with New Store, Barrel and Lace

Tennessee is famous for its country music, barbecue and rolling hills.

It’s also the birthplace of Mountain Dew, cotton candy and the Moon Pie.

Now local residents will get a taste of life in the state when they walk through the doors of Waynesboro’s newest business, Barrel and Lace.

“We wanted to bring a little bit of Tennessee to Waynesboro,” according to Brittany West, who co-owns the business with Ginger Calimer.

Located at 30 Walnut St. in the former Record Herald building, the store features clothing for women and children such as boots, jeans, tops, skirts, dresses, sweatshirts, graphic T-shirts featuring slogans and cows, as well as leather purses, primitive furniture, candles and decor. Men’s wear will be added later, they said.

“We both fell in love with the boots in Tennessee, our favorite place to go on vacation. We go together with our families,” offered Calimer, who’s involved in bookkeeping and behind the scenes work at husband Ben’s business, Calimer’s Transmissions, in the same building. “We’ve taken over the first floor with the help of Ben and his employees.”

The owners of the new business also were assisted by Michael Myers, boyfriend of West, who closed her boutiques in Waynesboro and Gettysburg to join Calimer in the new venture.

“We’ve had a positive reaction and people are really excited, expressing that there’s not a whole lot of places in the area to shop for these types of items,” noted Calimer. “I’m looking forward to bringing my love of boots and the style of Tennessee up here and sharing my knowledge of things I’ve learned there.”

“I’m super duper excited to open,” added West. “What makes this great is because it gives us freedom with our children – with owning our own business – to bring them in here and teach them things. It also gives us the opportunity to go to their sporting events and spend more time with them.” Calimer has two children, and West, five.

An open house will be held from 10 a.m.  to 4 p.m. Saturday. “We’ll have two food trucks setting up out front, and we’ve partnered with two different businesses for giveaways,” added Calimer.

There will be a drawing for a gift basket donated by local author Dwight Karkan filled with autographed copies of his Bixby Timmons adventure series books, “Bixby Timmons and the Dragonthorpe Riddle,” “Bixby Timmons and the Secrets of Shadow Deep,” and his latest one, “Bixby Timmons and the Snowenwood Rennen,” and other items. Barrel and Lace will carry autographed hard and paperback “Bixby Timmons” books.

There also will be a chance to win a gift card for a photo session with KC Kreit of Olivine Fox Wedding and Portrait Photography of Fairfield.

Store hours are 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
