Step Back in Time with Long Rifles and Quilts at the Franklin County Historical Society

CHAMBERSBURG– The Franklin County Historical Society invites everyone to step back in time and explore the rich history of the region through its latest exhibit, Long Rifles and Quilts. Opening on Saturday, Jan. 27, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the exhibit will showcase a fascinating collection of long rifles and quilts, each with their own unique story to tell.

A Glimpse into Franklin County’s Past

The long rifles on display were once essential tools for hunting and defense in the frontier days of Franklin County. Visitors can admire the craftsmanship of these early firearms, with their intricate barrels, wooden stocks, and delicate triggers. Each rifle represents a piece of the region’s pioneer spirit and resilience.

Quilts: More Than Just Warmth

Quilts, on the other hand, offer a glimpse into the domestic lives of Franklin County women. These beautifully crafted fabric tapestries served not only as practical bedding but also as expressions of creativity, family stories, and community bonds. The exhibit will feature quilts from different eras and styles, showcasing the evolution of quilting traditions in the region.

Free Opening Day Admission

There will be no admission charge for the Long Rifles and Quilts exhibit on its opening day, January 27th. This is a wonderful opportunity for families and history enthusiasts to explore the fascinating stories woven into these artifacts. Donations to the non-profit Franklin County Historical Society are appreciated.

Extended Viewing and Information

The exhibit will remain on display until April at the Franklin County Historical Society Museum, located at 175 East King Street, Chambersburg. After January 27, visitors can view the exhibit as part of the museum tour for a nominal fee.
