LANDOVER, Md. – South Hagerstown’s Unified track team found itself in a familiar place on Tuesday.
On top of a podium.
The Rebels won the Division 3 gold medal at the state track meet at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex. South won the unified track title for the sixth time, the first since 2023.
It’s also South’s first title since 2025, when the Rebels won the state bocce championship.
Unified track and field are one of three sports offered for special-needs athletes as varsity sports. It pairs the athletes with partners —abled-bodied students —together in competition, offering a unique experience for all who participate.
Division 3 was comprised of Smithsburg, Wise, Maryland School for the Deaf and a team comprised of athletes from North Hagerstown and Clear Spring.
Two weeks ago, South also won the Washington County title.
