South High’s Chapman signs with Hood; Shepherd’s Ruffner, Fluharty honored

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Ja’Seri Chapman, South Hagerstown’s record-setting outfielder, recently signed to play softball at Hood College next spring. 

Chapman broke program records for career stolen bases (58) and runs scored (93) this season. She also finished her high school career with 91 hits and a career batting average of .382. 

COLLEGE SOFTBALL 

Shepherd’s Ruffner earns more regional honors 

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University pitcher Madelayne Ruffner was named to the 2026 D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Team on Monday, to go with her NFCA All-Region Team selection. 

She was a four-time PSAC East Pitcher of the Week and three-time Wilson/NFCA Division II Pitcher of the Week. 

Ruffner was one of three first-team pitchers on the team after posting a 15-8 mark with four saves and a 1.28 ERA.  

She fanned 292 and walked 22 in 164 2/3 innings. Ruffner fired two no-hitters and set a Shepherd single-game record with 19 strikeouts twice this season.  

Ruffner currently leads NCAA II in strikeouts (291), strikeouts per seven innings (12.4), and WHIP (0.71). 

Shippensburg placed four players on the second team – pitcher Dani Hayward, third baseman Emilee Sullivan, shortstop Caitlyn Martell and outfielder Reagan Bauman. 

COLLEGE BASEBALL 

Shepherd’s Fluharty to second all-region team 

MILLERSVILLE, Pa.– Shepherd University’s third baseman Ryan Fluharty was named to the 2026 D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Baseball Team on Monday. Fluharty previously earned NCBWA All-Region honors. 

Fluharty, who was selected to the second team, topped the Rams with a .385 batting average with a team-best 70 hits in 182 at-bats. He also led the team with 16 doubles and was second in home runs with nine. He was 12-of-17 in stolen bases.  

Fluharty added a team-best 51 runs batted in and 48 runs scored. He tied for the team lead with five sacrifice flies. 

 Shippensburg had three players selected to the team. Mason Morris was chosen as a utility player, while first baseman Thomas Cano-Piszel and outfielder Ty Sherman joined Fluharty on the second team.
