South Hagerstown rolls to doubleheader sweep

FREDERICK, Md. – Tyson Mangold fired a no-hitter in the nightcap on Wednesday as South Hagerstown scored a 5-3 and 10-0 sweep of Thomas Johnson. 

Mangold shut down the Patriots by striking out five in the complete-game victory. The Rebels defense backed him flawlessly by playing errorless ball and turning two double plays. 

Brayden Ocasio sparked South offensively with seven hits in the doubleheader, including three in the Game Two win, while Luke Leisinger added two hits and three RBIs. 

The Rebels won the opener behind another complete game effort. Shawn Higgins struck out eight enroute to the win. 

Ocasio had four hits in the opener while Leisinger added two. 

HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL 

South Hagerstown 15, Thomas Johnson 7 

FREDERICK, Md. – The Rebels scored runs in all seven innings to take out Thomas Johnson. 

South (7-6) missed the chance at ending the game early by allowing the Patriots to score six runs in the fifth inning. 

With the win, South coach Chelsea Showe moved into second place in the Rebels’ all-time list with 62 victories. 

Raelee Fry led South with four hits and an RBI, including a double. She was also the winning pitcher, going six innings while allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and six walks, while striking out six. 

Chelsea Desmond added three hits, including a double and an RBI, while Kaelynn Kunkle doubled and tripled and drove in three runs. 

Ja’Seri Chapman had three hits, including a triple, and an RBI, whil Kenzie Lamer and Kenley Barnhart added two RBIs each. 

Kailia Burke, who pitched the seventh inning for South, had a double and an RBI. 

WOMEN’S LACROSSE 

Shippensburg 17, Shepherd 5 

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. –  Shannon Wood and Ali Pioli each scored three goals on Wednesday to lead Shippensburg to a PSAC East win over Shepherd University. 

Aattacker Hadley Robertson scored a pair of goals to pace the Rams (2-12, 1-9). Attacker Rebekah Forney added a goal and an assist, while attacker Kloey and attacker Madison Peacher each netted a goal.. 

Defender Luetta Seipp led the defensive effort with a match-high eight caused turnovers and a team-high five ground balls.                                                                                

Erin Reedy added two goals and an assist for the Raiders (7-9, 4-7). Olivia Glinski had a goal and four assists. 

WOMEN’S GOLF 

Shepherd sits 10th at PSAC Championship 

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Sara Veara fired an 85 and is in 36th place to lead Shepherd University to 10th place after the first round of the PSAC Championship at the Berkleigh Golf Club on Wednesday.  

Veara  is followed by Williamsport’s Kaylie Brown (90, 42nd), Natalee Johnson (99, 50th), Addison Buckland (102, 52nd), and Allison Wallace (111, 54th). 

The Rams return to action on Thursday for second round action.
