SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The Shepherd University baseball team won three of four games over the weekend, ending the a PSAC East split with Kutztown.
The Rams won the opener 9-2 on Saturday but dropped a 7-6 decision in the nightcap
Shepherd (24-13, 11-5) used a two-run double by designated hitter Wyatt Lamb to build a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Rams moved to a 4-0 lead in the second when infielder Andrew O’Brien singled and later scored on a throwing error.
Kutztown (14-17, 5-11) got a run back in the fourth on Bryce Shafer’s single.
Designated-hitter Ryan Fluharty hit a two-run blast in the fourth to give Shepherd a 6-1 advantage.
The Rams moved to a 9-1 lead in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run homer by first baseman Nik Rubendall.
Kutztown scored one in the seventh.
Lamb had two hits with two runs and a pair of RBIs to pace the Rams.
Pitcher Allen Miller (4-2) went seven innings to earn the win, allowing two runs on eight hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Kutztown bounced back in the nightcap with a 2-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by a Ferguson run-scoring double and an RBI-single from Michael Burns.
Shepherd tied the game at 2-2 in the first on a two-run home run by Lamb.
The Rams took a 3-2 lead in the second when third baseman Nathaniel Brookshire walked and later scored on a single from Bodie Pullen and took a 5-2 lead with two runs in the third
Nick Varda hit a two-run homer for the Golden Bears in the fifth to cut their deficit to one.
Rubendall homered in the fifth to extend Shepherd’s lead to 6-4 in the fifth.
Kutztown rallied to win with three runs in the seventh, highlighted by run-scoring singles from Drew Wheeler and Preston Warne.
Rubendall went 2-for-3 with two runs to pace the Rams.
Shepherd 7-10, Kutztown 0-6
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Bodie Pullen drove in four runs in the opener to help the Rams sweep a doubleheader on the road over Kutztown.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opener on a solo homer by Ryan Fluharty.
The Rams moved to a 3-0 lead in the second when outfielder Ethan Jones tripled and shortstop Ethan Burgreen walked before both scoring on fielder’s choice grounders.
Shepherd scored three runs in the sixth on a three-run double by Pullen.
The Rams closed out the win when Fluharty walked and eventually scored with Burgreen drew a bases-loaded walk.
Pitcher Gavin Miller moved to 2-3 with the win by working seven shutout innings, allowing two hits while striking out three and walking three.
Kutztown took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap, highlighted by a two-run single from Nick Varda.
Shepherd plated seven runs in the second, highlighted by a two-run double from Fluharty, to take a 7-3 lead.
The Rams added two runs in the third when Jones walked before infielder Andrew O’Brien drew a bases-loaded walk. Burgreen, who doubled, scored on a sacrifice fly from Pullen.
Shepherd took a 10-3 lead in the fifth when catcher Austin Sofran walked and scored on a sacrifice fly from Fluharty.
The Golden Bears scored three runs on one hit in the bottom of the sixth.
Burgreen went 2-for-3 with two runs to pace the Rams.
Conner Chancey (3-2) earned the win with 3 2/3 hitless shutout innings of work, while striking four and walking two.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
East Stroudsburg 9-1, Shepherd 0-0
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University (14-16, 9-9) was shutout in both ends of a PSAC East doubleheader on Saturday at the hands of East Stroudsburg.
East Stroudsburg (23-13, 11-7) took an early 1-0 lead before plating four runs in the second inning of the opener to take a 5-0 advantage.
The Warriors added four runs in the fourth as Delaney Ridgell, Megan Chroniger, and Katie Master each drove in a run.
Shepherd’s Natalee Harvey (5-6) took the loss, lasting only two innings while allowing five earned runs on seven hits with a strikeout and a walk.
East Stroudsburg scored the game’s only run in the sixth in the nightcap as Tulana Mingin led off with a single and scored on a double by Maddin Grow.
Catcher Madelyn Chambers went 2-for-3 to lead the Rams.
Bloomsburg 8-5, Shepherd 1-8
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Shepherd University split a PSAC East doubleheader with Bloomsburg on Friday.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning in game one on a solo blast by Brenna Collis.
Bloomsburg tied the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the frame and took a 2-1 lead in the second on a solo homer.
Bloomsburg blew the game open with six runs in the sixth.
Collis had a pair of hits for the Rams
The Rams’ Natalee Harvey (5-5) took the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
Bloomsburg took a 2-0 lead in the first inning in the nightcap behind solo blasts from Taylor Kranzley and Sydney Thompson.
Shepherd plated six runs on five hits in the third led by outfielder and Williamsport graduate Payton Weaver’s two-run single.
The Rams added two runs in the fourth. Collis (ripped an RBI single and catcher Julia Alexander drove in another run when she walked with the bases loaded.
A two-run double by Alizabeth Schuler keyed a three-run rally for the Huskies in the fourth to close the score to 6-5
Collis, Weaver, Boonsboro’s Haylee Hartman and Hailey each had a pair of hits to lead an 11-hit attack for the Rams.
Pitcher Madelayne Ruffner moved to 7-6, allowing five runs on 10 hits with one walk and 14 strikeouts in the complete-game victory.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Bloomsburg 17, Shepherd 11
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Kayla Stressman scored five goals to lead Bloomsburg (4-9, 3-6 PSAC East) over Shepherd PSAC East) in PSAC East women’s lacrosse win on Senior Day at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
The Rams honored seniors Rebekah Forney, Aubrey Harrison, Madison Peacher, Holly Poe, Sierra Rose, and Destiny Rockwell in a pre-game ceremony.
Midfielder Aubrey Harrison led the Rams (2-9, 1-6) with three goals. Attacker Rebekah Forney added a pair of goals and three assists. Harrison also had a team-high four draw controls.
Attacker Kloey Batchellor netted two goals, while attacker Grace had a goal and an assist.
Junior defender Luetta Seipp recorded a game-high eight ground balls to pace the Shepherd defense. Seipp (102) went over 100 ground balls for her career.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Veara leads Shepherd to fifth at Husky Spring Invitational
DANVILLE, Pa. – Shepherd University’s Sara Veara fired a 79 to finish in second place individually to lead the Rams to a fifth-place finish at the Husky Spring Invitational on Thursday at Frosty Valley Golf Club.
The Rams finished in the middle of a 10-team field with a combined score of 381.
Noemi Krizso of Bloomsburg took individual medalist honors with a 78. Bloomsburg took team honors with a 344.
Followning Veara for the Rams were Natalee Johnson (97, T-27th), Addison Buckland (100, T-31st) and Allison Wallace (105, T-38th)
Also competing for Shepherd were Williamsport’s Kaylie Brown (106, 40th), Ava Biafore (129, T-51st), Grace Academy’s Madison Burns (136, 54th), and Paige Stickley 144, 56th).
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Ten Rams Named to NFF National Honor Society
IRVING, Texas – Offensive linemen Brandon Carr, Aidan Gaugan and Ty Lucas – all seniors – along with graduate student quarterback Michael Hardyway led a group of 10 Shepherd University football players to earn places on the 2026 National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society.
The NFF list is comprised of football players from all divisions of NCAA, NAIA, and sprint football who have maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their career.
Rounding out the Rams honorees were senior defensive lineman Daniel McPherson, senior fullback Mason Miller, senior wide receiver Marcus Nicholson, graduate student quarterback/wide receiver Chase Soper, graduate student running back Grant Swinehart and senior offensive lineman Jayson Williams.
Celebrating its 20th year, the NFF Hampshire Honor Society has recognized 23,568 student-athletes from 691 schools since 2007. The 2026 class, which includes a record 2,596 players from 365 schools, represents the largest group in the program’s history and underscores the sustained academic achievement taking place across all levels of college football.
Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must be either a senior player, who will graduate this spring/summer, and just completed his final year of playing eligibility in 2025 or agraduated player or grad transfer, who has already earned a bachelor’s degree and competed in the 2025 season (even if the player has remaining eligibility and may return to play next season).
They must have attained a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale) and been a starter or contributor throughout the 2025 season.
