Area school districts across Franklin County, Pa., and Washington County, Md., have announced early dismissals and cancellations Monday as extreme weather warnings move through the region.
Officials cite forecasts calling for heavy rain, strong winds and possible flooding as reasons for the precautionary schedule changes. Afternoon and evening school activities, including sports events and extracurricular programs, are canceled.
District leaders urge families to stay alert to communication updates and monitor local emergency notifications. Public safety agencies remind residents to avoid travel in hazardous conditions and to remain weather aware as conditions develop throughout the day.
- Washington County Public Schools: two-hour early dismissal; no evening activities
- Waynesboro Area School District: secondary learners will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. and elementary students will be dismissed at 1:30 p.m. no evening activities
- Greencastle-Antrim School District: Grades 6-12 will dismiss beginning at 12:30 pm and K-5 will begin bus dismissal at 1:15 pm. Permanent car riders and parent pick ups for K-5, please plan to arrive prior to 1:05 pm to avoid buses. All activities cancelled.
- Chambersburg Area School District: two-hour early dismissal; no evening activities
- Fairfield Area School District: Middle and High school dismissing at 11:30 a.m. Elementary dismissing at 12:30 p.m. All students will be served lunch. All evening activities cancelled
