WAYNESBOBO, Pa. — Waynesboro Rotarians learned a bit about the background of club member Bob Allison, a counselor turned financial adviser, in a talk last week.
Allison grew up in the small town of Weatherly near Hazleton, Pennsylvania. His family ran a convenience store when he was a youth. He graduated from Weatherly High School as one of 56 students in the Class of 1970. After
graduation, he went on to earn a bachelor of science degree from Penn State in rehabilitation education. He said he chose the major because he was interested in doing what he could to improve people’s lives. That same
motivation inspired him to earn a master of science degree in counseling education from the University of Scranton and to take additional courses at West Chester and Shippensburg universities.
Allison’s counseling career covered an assortment of school districts and positions at middle, elementary and
high school levels, but he spent most of his career in the Brandywine Heights School District. He found career counseling to be one of the more satisfying facets of the job as he believed he could help students make choices that “made a difference in their lives.”
More recently Allison has worked in the financial services field with Primerica, an independent financial services
marketing company. He believes he can help people there by improving their financial security.
