HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Saved by the Sale Thrift Shop will celebrate the grand opening of its new location on March 21, less than a year after an unexpected closure left the future of the nonprofit in doubt.
The shop, which supports an Emergency Vet Relief Fund for families facing urgent pet medical bills, will reopen at 13018 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown at 11 a.m. March 21. The event marks a return after the group’s previous location closed abruptly and most of the store’s contents were destroyed, according to organizers.
Leaders of Saved by the Sale said they were uncertain the shop would ever reopen. In the months following the closure, community members donated money and goods, sent messages of encouragement and offered hands-on help as the organization searched for a new home and rebuilt its inventory.
Those efforts allowed volunteers to secure the new storefront and restock the shelves ahead of next week’s opening. The thrift shop will continue to accept donations of pet supplies, children’s clothing, shoes, bags and kitchenware, which are resold to help fund emergency veterinary care for local pet owners in crisis.
Organizers said the reopening represents more than the return of a shopping destination. They described the grand opening as a symbol of the community’s commitment to keeping a life-saving resource available for animals and the people who love them.
“Every purchase in this store helps keep a pet with the family that cherishes it,” the organization said in its announcement. “We are here today because this community refused to let something good disappear.”
