HAGERSTOWN, Md. – South Hagerstown’s boys lacrosse team opened the 2026 season on Saturday by splitting a pair of games during the SouthSide Invitational.
Logan Harold scored three goals but the Rebels couldn’t head off Francis Scott Key in a 10-7 loss in the first game. Four other Rebels shared in the rest of South’s scoring.
South bounced back with a 7-1 win over Park View High School of Sterling, Va.
Trevor Rhodes scored his first two goals of his high school career to lead the Rebels.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Shepherd 6-9, Bloomsburg 5-8
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – The first time felt so good, the Shepherd University baseball team had to do it twice.
The Rams swept Bloomsburg in a doubleheader on Saturday, with both games finishing in walk-off fashion. Shepherd won to opener 6-5 and took the nightcap 9-8, each time by scoring winning runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a pair of PSAC East victories.
Shepherd took first game on Cole Ahart’s sacrifice fly to score Ryan Fluharty to break a 5-5 tie. The Rams (14-8, 2-0) needed a two-run seventh to pull out the sweep when pinch runner Nathaniel Brookshire and shortstop Ethan Burgreen each scored on a throwing error.
Shepherd fell behind 4-0 in the opener before scoring a run in the fourth on infielder Evan Rosario’s grounder to bring home outfielder Bodie Pullen, who tripled.
The Rams tied the game at 4 in the fifth, powered by a RBI triple by Pullen and a run-scoring double by former Hagerstown Community College infielder Braylon Conner.
Shepherd took a 5-4 lead in the sixth when outfielder Ethan Jones singled and scored on a catcher Alex Rose’s sacrifice fly.
Bloomsburg tied the game 5-5 in the seventh before Fluharty reached on an infield single and moved to third on a double by first baseman Nik Rubendall to set the table for Ahart.
Pullen went 2-for-3 with two runs scored to pace the Rams.
Pitcher Logan Bower got the win for Shepherd with one-third of an inning’s work, which was a strikeout.
In the nightcap, Bloomsburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Shepherd countered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom half.
The Huskies (9-5, 0-2) took a 4-2 lead in the second, but the Rams immediately tied the game with a two-run home run by Pullen.
Bloomsburg took a 6-4 lead in the third, but Shepherd could only move within one run on a Burgreen sacrifice fly.
Bloomsburg scored in the fourth to regain a two-run lead, but the Rams cut it half with a run fifth on a Ahart RBI triple to make it 7-6.
The Huskies took an 8-6 lead in the sixth and Shepherd countered with a run when Rosario singled and scored on a fielder’s choice.
The Rams rallied for the win in the seventh, starting with Ahart drawing a lead-off walk before being lifted for Brookshire. Burgreen singled to set up the game-winning sequence.
Pullen went 1-for-4 with one run scored and drove in two to pace the Rams.
Tre Rex pitched 1 1/3 innings to earn the win and even his record at 1-1.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
No. 25 East Stroudsburg 4-1, Shepherd 2-3
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University’s pitcher Claire Keyser blasted a three-run home run to left field in the second inning of the second game on Saturday to lead the Rams to a doubleheader split against No. 25-ranked East Stroudsburg.
The Warriors (10-3, 1-3) scored early in the opener and held on for the win.
East Stroudsburg scored two in the first inning in the first game and added a run in the fifth for3-0 lead.
Shepherd got back into the game in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run triple by Boonsboro graduate Haylee Hartman to cut the deficit to one.
The Warriors got a solo homer from Gigi DeMito in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Shepherd pitcher Natalee Harvey took the loss, working 5 2/3 innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits and four walks while striking out three.
Shepherd (6-9, 1-2) took and instant 3-0 lead in the second inning of the nightcap as infielder Jordan Gugliuzza drew a walk and outfielder Lexi McAllister reached on an error to set up Keyser’s home run.
East Stroudsburg’s lone run came in the fourth.
Keyser allowed an unearned run in four innings, getting two strikeouts while allowing four hits and a walk for the win. Madelayne Ruffner got the save with three shutout innings while striking out eight.
The Rams host Shippensburg for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
West Chester 20, Shepherd 6
Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Falls to #11 West Chester
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Kendall Fortune and Sydney Wasdick each scored four goals on Saturday to lead No. 11-ranked West Chester to a victory over Shepherd University in PSAC East contest.
Midfielder Katherine Stevenson led the Rams with a pair of goals, while attacker Hadley Robertson a goal and two assists.
Attackers Holly Poe and Rebekah Forney, along with midfielder Aubrey Harrison each netted a goal.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Shippensburg at 3 p.m. for the Morgan’s Message Game.
