WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Rotarian Megan Witmer, along with her guest, Jacob Harrison, discussed their efforts to get the Rotaract of Franklin County Young Community Club off the ground.
Witmer described Rotaract clubs, which have been an arm of Rotary since the 1960s, as a global effort to bring peace and understanding to the world.
The local group, sponsored by Waynesboro Rotary, is looking for professionals, creative persons, tradespersons, students and caregivers in the 18 to 40 age range. Rotarian Jeff Rock described Rotaract as a kind of “minor league” for Rotary, developing possible future members for Rotary Clubs.
The Rotaract club’s mission involves building an authentic local community, service above self, supporting personal and professional growth, and creating inclusive connections. Basically, Witmer said, the club is looking for individuals who want to give back to the community.
The club also is seeking Rotary members who would be interested in becoming board members to provide mentorship and help get the club started. Club members should be willing to participate in monthly meetings and semiannual service projects.
Persons interested in serving the club can contact Witmer at 223-231-7640 or by emailing [email protected].
