Public health, infrastructure among issues before Washington County Commission

HAGERSTOWN – Washington County Commissioners have announced their next meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 24, to discuss community issues including public health, infrastructure and emergency services.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at 100 W. Washington St. Like the previous meeting on June 10, the agenda does not include a citizen participation section at the start of the meeting.

Key agenda items include presentation of a Youth Meritorious Award to Ariella Adjangba-Baker of Williamsport High School for her scholastic and community contributions.

The commissioners will also consider approving a $400,000 Healthy Families Home Visiting Grant to support early intervention and child maltreatment prevention, and a $2.68 million Maryland 9-1-1 Board grant for a geo-diverse emergency response system upgrade to enhance emergency communications reliability.

Other topics include approving $399,350 in opioid restitution funds for the Day Reporting Center’s medication-assisted treatment and reentry programs, a $455,060 change order for inmate healthcare services, and a Community Legacy Grant application for local development.

Discussions regarding infrastructure will cover the Hopewell Road property acquisition, a Fort Ritchie cell tower lease and a Hagerstown Regional Airport utility expansion contract.

A closed session will follow to address personnel matters, including appointments to the Police Accountability Board and other boards, hiring decisions and legal consultations on potential litigation and public facility security.

An evening session will follow at 6 p.m. in Boonsboro to address local priorities with town leaders.
