WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Renfrew Museum and Park hosted a Civil War living history event June 27-28, offering visitors an interactive look at life leading up to the Battle of Gettysburg. “The Rascals Have Been Expecting Us,” presented by The 19th Century Researchers and Civil War Historical Impressions, featured encampments, drilling demonstrations and historical presentations from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
Participants portrayed Union and Confederate soldiers as well as civilians, focusing on daily life in the summer of 1863 rather than traditional battle reenactments. The free, family-friendly event encouraged community engagement and supported preservation efforts, with optional donations and ticketed farmstead tours offered Saturday.
