WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Families gathered at Main Street Park on Saturday, Aug. 22, for Boro Bash 250, an evening of music, local history, food and free patriotic activities celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

The community event featured live music by Mid Life Crisis, a reading of the Declaration of Independence and the national anthem.

Children participated in a coloring station, face painting, balloon giveaways and red, white and blue tie-dye bandana activities. The Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library also offered Alka-Seltzer rocket activities.

Visitors could view history displays from the Oller House/Waynesboro Historical Society and learn from historian John Miller of the Shippensburg History Center. The Franklin County Visitors Bureau also provided historical activities.

The evening included a hot dog-eating contest, a quilt and grill raffle and a raffle for a free stay at Amberson House Bed & Breakfast.

Local organizations and businesses joined food vendors AllyKats Mobile Cafe, Antietam Dairy, Chillin’ Out Snoballs and Rough Edges Brewing. The Waynesboro Fire Department displayed a fire engine, while state Rep. Chad Reichard’s (R-Franklin) office provided free copies of the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence.
