PHOTO GALLERY: Run for Clean Water Kenya

WAYNESBORO— The Waynesboro Rotary Club organized a 7-mile and 5K run on Saturday, Aug. 26 to raise money to provide clean water to Maasai villagers in Kenya.

The event, called the Run for Clean Water Kenya, was held in Waynesboro. Runners from all over the region participated, including members of the Waynesboro Cross Country teams.

The goal of the run was to raise funds to purchase more portable water filtration systems and rain barrels for the villagers. The Waynesboro Rotary Club was able to purchase a truck in 2022, which has enabled them to deliver the filtration systems more economically and efficiently.

The Maasai people live in a semi-arid region of Kenya and often have difficulty accessing clean water. The water they do have is often contaminated with bacteria and other harmful substances. This can lead to waterborne diseases, such as diarrhea and cholera.

The portable water filtration systems that the Waynesboro Rotary Club is providing will help to ensure that the Maasai villagers have access to clean, safe water. The rain barrels will also help to collect rainwater, which can be used for drinking, cooking, and bathing.
