CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Penn State Extension will offer a Home Food Preservation: Wild Game workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at the Penn State Extension Franklin County office.
The program will be held at 181 Franklin Farm Lane and is designed to explain current science-based recommendations for safely preserving wild game at home.
Participants will learn about canning, freezing and drying methods that can help hunters preserve game for use throughout the year. The workshop also will address common food preservation myths and practices that are now considered unsafe.
Interest in home food preservation has grown in recent years, according to Penn State Extension. While people have used preservation methods for generations, updated food-safety research has changed recommendations for handling, preparing and storing foods, including wild game.
The cost is $15 per person.
