It is with broken hearts that the family announces the death of their beloved mother, Zoila Margarita Gaskins Moreno. She had been in failing health for six years and was critically ill for the past several weeks. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on August 14, 2023 at age 81. Born July 20, 1942 in Bayamo, Granma, Cuba she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Gaskins and Teresa Moreno. She spent her younger years teaching adults to read and write.

Zoila enjoyed embroidering and cooking delicious Cuban food. She was always being silly and telling jokes. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of her community.

She and her late husband Francisco Maderal Vazquez met in 1967 in Havana, Cuba where she was employed as a Child Daycare Educator for 20 years. They immigrated to the United States in November of 2002. They were residents of the Harrisburg, PA area for over 10 years where they resided with their daughter, Natalia. In 2013 they moved to Valrico, FL to reside with their other daughter, Ana. In 2018 when Zoila became ill her daughter Natalia moved to Greencastle, PA to be in charge of care for her.

Gaskins is survived by two daughters Natalia Aguilar Gaskins of Greencastle, PA and Ana O. Maderal Gaskins of Valrico, FL; three grandchildren Carlos Mera, Eduardo Mera both of PA and Nathali Rivero of FL; four great grandchildren Ava, Andi, Ana, Roen of PA and her sister Maria Inocencia Moreno of Texas. In addition to her parents and husband, Francisco Maderal, she is preceded in death by her middle daughter who passed just two days after birth; a sister, Maria T. Gaskins; and a cousin Julio Figueras.
