Mrs. Wilmarie  Elizabeth “Billie” Fleigh Hopkins, 87, of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, September 28, 2015, at CJ’s Senior Care, Hagerstown.  She was the wife of the late Dr. John Henry Hopkins, who passed on January 17, 2002.

Born February 10, 1928, in Hagerstown, she was a daughter of the late William Campbell and Catharine Louise Rouskulp Fleigh.

Billie was a 1946 graduate of Hagerstown High School. Immediately after graduating from high school, she attended Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore; in later years, she attended Hagerstown Junior College to take general courses and then real estate courses.  She became a licensed realtor and managed rental properties for Century 21 for many years.  In addition, she earned her contractor’s license (Billie-Can Agency) which helped her in managing rental properties.

Her main passion, besides being a mother and homemaker, was helping her husband with his local veterinary practice.

Billie was a member of Haven Lutheran Church, where, in earlier years, she sang in the church choir.

Billie was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Morris Frock Post No. 42 of the American Legion, on Northern Avenue, in Hagerstown.

Billie enjoyed drawing, especially horses and donkeys; she also enjoyed reading and was well informed on a variety of subjects.

Surviving are her sons, John Henry “Jack” Hopkins, Jr., and Richard Thomas “Dick” Hopkins and wife JoAnn, all of Hagerstown; her grandchildren, Michelle L. Hopkins of Lake Stevens, Washington; Adam A. Hopkins and wife Lauren; Andrew T. Hopkins and wife Holly, all of Hagerstown; her great grandchildren, Madison Blosser, Gavan A., Amelia M., Lillian E. and Isaac T. Hopkins; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, Billie was preceded in death by her daughter Catharine Louise “Kitty” Hopkins, on December 24, 2004; and by sisters, Verona F. Twist, Lorraine F. Hammaker, and Doris F. Potterfield.

The arrangements are in the stead of Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Inc., Hagerstown.  Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
