Mr. William J. Lennartz, Sr., 97, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Thursday, January 9, 2024 in his home. Born July 17, 1927 in Lewistown, PA he was the son of the late John E. and Mary (Weitzel) Lennartz. 

He was a graduate of Lewistown High School. Following graduation he served with the United States Army from September 25, 1945 until his honorable discharge November 23, 1946. 

Mr. Lennartz was the manager of Glick’s Shoe Store, Chambersburg for over 40 years. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus both in Chambersburg. He was also a life member of Brooklyn Fire Company, Lewistown, PA.

He is survived by four children, William J. Lennartz Jr. (and companion, Barb Rider), Patricia A. Group (and husband, Zachary), Mary E. Hornbaker (and husband, Terry), and Deborah J. Kissel (and husband, Michael) all of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Roddy of Mount Union, PA and Louise Hughes of Lewistown, PA and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, C. Jean (Bargo) Lennartz; two grandsons, Ryan Mills and Joshua Group; five sisters, Gertrude Arnone, Florence Knepp, Marie Kauffman, Agnes Evans and Teresa Witzel; three brothers, Frank, Charlie and John Lennartz, and an infant daughter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 13, 2025 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave. Chambersburg, PA, with Fr. Allan Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery where military honors will be rendered by members of the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Monday morning in the church narthex. Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Corpus Christi Catholic Church at the above address.
