William (Bill) G. Weagly Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Born on January 29, 1941, in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, Bill was the beloved son of Kathryn (Wolfinger) and Gordan Weagly. He grew up in Waynesboro, where he graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1959 before continuing his education at American University in 1964, earning a Business Administration degree that would serve as the foundation for his lifelong career. He served honorably in the Army National Guard and then Coast Guard Reserves from 1964-1970 and was deeply proud of his time in uniform.
Bill was a proud and dedicated business owner, leading Craig Friedly Insurance in Waynesboro for many years. Through his work, he built lasting relationships and earned the trust and respect of countless clients and colleagues. Following his retirement, he and his wife Sandy made their home in Hilton Head, South Carolina, where they enjoyed the next chapter of life together.
A devoted husband, Bill, shared 41 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sandy Weagly. He is also survived by his stepsons, Michael Hoffman and his wife Debbie of Dover, Pennsylvania, and Eric Hoffman and his partner Walt Cunningham of Chicago, Illinois. Bill took great pride in his grandchildren: Staff Sergeant Andrew Hoffman and his wife Andrea, and Senior Airman Matthew Hoffman and his wife Aaliyah.
Bill was a valued and active member of his community. He generously gave his time as a volunteer and served as President on the boards of Rotary, the YMCA, Waynesboro Hospital, and Franklin County Easter Seal Society. He also served at Trinity United Church of Christ as a trustee, and a board member of Citizens National Bank. His quiet leadership and commitment to service left a meaningful and lasting impact on those around him.
He will be remembered for his love of sports, especially his unwavering support for Penn State and Washington football. Bill also cherished the time he spent on the golf course, sharing many happy rounds with Sandy and friends.
Above all, Bill will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and the genuine care he showed to others. He lived a life rooted in service, friendship, and love—values that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at Moss Creek Country Club on May 27, 2026 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. There will also be a second celebration at the Waynesboro Country Club on July 10, 2026 – times to be determined.
In the spirit of paying it forward, as Bill so often did, the family invites those who wish to honor his memory to make a donation to a charity of their choice.
