Mr. William M. ”Bill” Anderson, 98, of Hagerstown, died early Saturday morning, September 17, 2022, at Brookdale Senor Living, Hagerstown.  He was the husband of Mrs. Mary Alice Binkley Anderson, his wife of 71 years.

Born November 28, 1923, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Samuel Isaac and Grace Mae Warrenfeltz Anderson.

Bill worked for many years with Roy L. Hoffman & Sons, Hagerstown; and formerly with Hoffman Farm and Fairchild; both also of Hagerstown.

He was a longtime member of Salem Reformed Church, Hagerstown, where he was fondly referred to by some as “Pappy” or “Mr. Bill.”

Bill could be described as devoted; a very hard worker; and adventuresome.  There was nothing more important to him than his wife and family.  That care also extended to his church family.  He was always there to offer a helping hand. Whether he was at home or his place of employment he was always intent on finishing the task, then ready to tackle the next.   Much of his work took place outdoors, at home and at work, farming and gardening.  He even enjoyed some traveling, riding a mule, in his sixties, to explore the wonders of the Grand Canyon.

Besides loving wife, Bill was survived by his children, Jane Lesher and husband Richard of Cearfoss; Andrew Anderson and wife Junedale of Mercersburg, Laurie Weller and husband Timothy, Sr.  of Clear Spring, and Karen Shives and husband Michael of Fairview; his grandchildren Scott Lesher, Todd Lesher and wife Mary Beth; Andrea Carbaugh and husband David, Timothy Weller, Jr., Kameron Shives and wife Becky, McKade, Anthony, Marquell, Michael, Mariah, and Nevaeh Shives, and Kyle Crider; as well as great grandchildren, Jordan, Sophie, and Izaac Lesher and Olivia, Willa and Mila Carbaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by a brother and six sisters.

The Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown, is handling arrangements for the family.  The family will receive friends at his church, Salem Reformed Church, 13182 Salem Church Road, Hagerstown, on Wednesday, September 21, beginning at 10:30 AM.  A memorial service will begin at his church of Wednesday, at 11:00 AM, with his pastor, Rev. Eric Cox, officiating.  Interment will follow in the churchyard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of Washington County, 11370 Caring Pathway Lane, Hagerstown, Maryland  21742; https://hospiceofwc.org/giving/donate-now.
