Mr. William A. “Bill” Rinker, III, 76, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2026 in WellSpan York Hospital.
Born June 22, 1949 in Medina, NY, he was the son of the late William A. Rinker, II and Margaret (Whittleton) Rinker.
He was a graduate of Lyndonville High School with the Class of 1967 and then attended SUNY at Brockport.
Mr. Rinker had a long and distinguished career in the United States Army, retiring as Master Sergeant in 1992 after 22 years of service. He completed tours in Panama, Korea and Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he dedicated many years to the United States Government based at Fort Detrick, MD where he worked in secure voice and data systems. He retired in 2019.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, Waynesboro Fish and Game Association, Boy Scouts of America where he served as a Scout Leader while his sons were growing up and The National Rifle Association.
Mr. Rinker enjoyed the outdoors, especially time spent hunting and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Orioles where he held season tickets for Sunday games for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mrs. Sharon E. (Campbell) Rinker, who he married December 27, 1969; two sons, Karl W. Rinker (Crystal) of Lusby, MD and Kurt A. Rinker of Waynesboro; daughter-in-law, Wendy A. Rinker of Waynesboro; six grandchildren, Wyatt, Mya, Kamren, Konner, Kensie and Kiegen; one sister, Mary Ann Prentice of Rochester, NY; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 12, 2026 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro with the Rev. Danielle Neff officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
Private interment with full military honors will take place in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA, at the convenience of the family.
