Mr. Walter E. Shives, 99, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Monday, February 2, 2026, in York Hospital, York, PA.

Born November 26, 1926, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Jerry and Vivian M. (Hoffman) Shives.

He graduated from Lemasters High School, Lemasters, PA, with the class of 1946.

He and his wife, Ruth W. (Wallech) Shives were married August 24, 1951. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage together before Mrs. Shives passed away August 17, 2010.

Mr. Shives served his country honorably in the United States Army.

He was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot where he held serval different positions throughout his career there. He retired after 44 years of service.

He was a member of the V.F.W. Greencastle, and the Mt. Pisgah Masonic Lodge, #443, Greencastle, where he served as Worshipful Master. In his younger years, he was an assistant Scout Master for Boy Scouts. A simple man by nature, he enjoyed fishing, reading, traveling, camping, trips to his cabin, and wood working.

He is survived by his children, Susan M. Angle and her husband Dale, Alan R. Shives, Gary L. Shives and his wife Connie, and Terry L. Shives, all of Greencastle; six grandchildren, Candace Angle, Joshua Angle, Chad Shives, Keisia Shives, Jessica Dulberger, and Emily Reed; five great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Samantha, Gaven, Dylan, and Blake; as well as an extended host of family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey E. Shives; one grandson, Dale Angle II; and his siblings, Jerry Shives Jr., Robert Shives, and Isabelle Shoeman.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 5, 2026, in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle with Rev. David Rawley officiating. A Masonic funeral by the members of the Mt. Pisgah Masonic Lodge #443 will take place just prior to the religious services.

Burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, will be private and at the convenience of the family.
