Virginia Walck Fitz, age 95, of Red Lion, PA and formerly of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster. Born December 22, 1928, in Greencastle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Lester and Mary Ellen Ziegler Walck.
Mrs. Fitz was a 1946 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Maryland and her Master’s degree in Library Science from Shippensburg University. Mrs. Fitz taught 5th grade and 9th grade English in the Greencastle Antrim School District, and then worked as an Elementary School Librarian and then Head Librarian for the Chambersburg Area School District, retiring in 1985. Mrs. Fitz was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greencastle, PA. She enjoyed gardening, reading, stitching, and playing Bridge.
Surviving are two daughters, MaryEllen Bowser (husband Carl) of York, PA and Margaret “Peggy” Blaker (husband Murray) of West Chester, PA; four grandchildren, Brian and Robert Bowser, Abigail Blaker Bell, and Bradford Blaker; and eleven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Fitz in 2016.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 11:30 AM at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greencastle, 130 N. Washington St., Greencastle, PA, where Pastor Katy Yates-Brungraber will officiate. Interment will be private. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle (address above) or to Hospice and Community Care, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mt. Joy, PA 17552.
